Mar. 8--EDMOND -- There's been something lost in our discussions about the proposed convention center in Edmond. First we fought about where it should be located. Far north on Interstate 35 or closer to more developed areas? If it goes on I-35, which intersection can handle it? Then we started arguing about how to fund the convention center. The Edmond School District and an army of parents were poked with the pointy stick of Tax Increment Financing, which got them all riled up, and the city got TIF proposals that, frankly, asked for way too much in return for promised (but not guaranteed) dividends.
