Hear "pasta" and spaghetti and meatballs quickly pops to mind. Hear "baked pasta" and lasagna takes center stage.
Yet baked pasta, or pasta al forno, comes in many varieties.
"There's something comforting about baked pasta. Put it into the oven and you can turn it into a wonderful casserole," said Mary Ann Esposito, host of PBS's "Ciao, Italia." The program airs locally at 3:30 p.m. Mondays on WYCC Channel 20.
"You get that nice, crunchy top and once you dig down under the crust, everything is so creamy and delicious," she said.
