ANAHEIM, Calif. _ Aaron Nixon made just enough moves to earn Long Beach State a spot in the NCAA Tournament by leading the 49ers to a 94-83 victory over Cal Poly San Obispo in the Big West Tournament championship Saturday night at Anaheim Convention Center.
Nixon, the conference player of the year and tournament Most Valuable Player, had a game-high 29 points and pulled down a season-best 10 rebounds to help the 49ers advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995.
Long Beach succeeded where it failed last year, where it lost in the championship to Pacific, 78-70.
