BURBANK, Calif., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Mesa Records artists -- Aswad and Black Uhuru -- became contenders for "Best Reggae Album" of 1994 last week when the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced its nominations for the 1994 Grammy Awards.

It was the first Grammy nomination for British reggae band Aswad, whose members include vocalist/guitarist Brinsley Forde, drummer/vocalist Drummie Zeb and bassist Tony Gad Robinson. Aswad's album "Rise & Shine" spent four weeks at the #1 spot on the CMJ New World chart and garnered a Top 10 slot on the Billboard reggae chart.
