Mar. 11--It used to be that produce growers were mainly concerned with growing a product with the right size, color and taste so people would want to buy it. Today, it's not a question of whether a consumer would want to eat their product -- it's whether they believe it won't make them ill. "Food safety has to be the primary issue addressed in the fresh produce industry," said Jim Gorny, senior vice president for food safety and technology with United Fresh Produce Association.
