Biodiesel fuel is seeks a market alongside petroleum diesel fuel and alternative motor fuels. Because it reduces emissions, compared with diesel fuel, it hopes to find niche markets in a blend with diesel fuel, usually 20% biodiesel, 80% diesel.
At a theoretical cost of $2.50/gal., with diesel at 50[cents]/gal., the one-fifth gal. of biodiesel would add 50[cents] to the cost of a gallon of 20/80 blend, raising the total cost to 90[cents]/gal. At present, most biodiesel is being sold to tax emempt governmental agencies.
