Mar. 12--No matter where he goes in Columbia with his hot air balloon, pilot Gary Whitby fields the same question: When are the hot air balloons coming back to town? At last, Whitby has good news to share. In August, more than 30 hot air balloons are expected to descend on Columbia for a free three-day event that organizers hope will become an annual festival. Whitby said if all goes as plans, proceeds from the Aug. 23-26 event will benefit the University of Missouri Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network.
