I enjoy Dr. Paul J. Fink's columns very much and generally agree with his point of view.
Regarding one recent column ("Helping Patients Conquer Sleep Problems," Fink! Still at Large, December 2006, p. 11), I would be interested to hear Dr. Fink's comments about a sleep study conducted by Michele A. Bertocci and her colleagues (J. Amer. Acad. Child Adolesc. Psychiatry 2005;44:1158-66).
They studied 51 depressed children, aged 8-17 years, all of whom had complained of insomnia. The children were tested carefully in a sleep lab, and the investigators noted that none of the patients who reported insomnia actually had anything wrong with their sleep! And to top it off, the ...
