Mar. 13--Demand for corn to make ethanol will keep corn prices well above average this year, assuming the nation's corn belt has an average growing season. If the corn crop is crimped by drought, however, prices could skyrocket. Ethanol is an alternative fuel that, proponents believe, could help reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil. Ethanol is mixed with gasoline to make automobile grade fuel, with some vehicles running on a mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. With everyone from President George W.
