Nearly a third of the monitoring points in the Blackstone River watershed showed excessive levels of nutrients in the water, prompting the Blackstone River Coalition to issue a number of "poor" grades in its annual report card.
Tammy Gilpatrick, coordinator of the water quality monitoring program for the coalition, confirmed that the waters in and around the Blackstone continue to be plagued by high levels of nutrients.
Of the 76 sites monitored in the watershed, which stretches from Holden and Boylston in the north to Pawtucket, R.I., in the south, 24 - around 31 percent - received a poor grade in the nutrient ...
