Fifty years ago, "Code Name: The Cleaner" would have been a vehicle for Bob Hope or Jerry Lewis. It probably also would have had a lot more laughs. In building a comedy-thriller around Cedric the Entertainer, the filmmakers are so busy churning their not very interesting plot that they forget to let Cedric be funny.
The film begins when he wakes up in a hotel room and, in short order, finds a dead body, a head wound, and a briefcase filled with a quarter million dollars. Fleeing the hotel, he is picked up by Diane (Nicolette Sheridan), who says she's his wife. We learn his name is Jake, and that he ...
