AUBURN - It was an event where even the mail carrier pulled off to the side of Auburn Street to take a picture.
As about two dozen people looked on, the cupola was removed from the roof of the 1935 wing of the old Auburn High School yesterday morning. Many onlookerstook pictures.
Workers from Patriots Environmental Corps in Worcester, which has been removing asbestos from the now-closed high school, started removing wooden beams that secured the cupola to the school about 8:30 a.m.
Just before 10 a.m. Tony Leo, co-owner of Leo Construction Co. Inc. of Webster, lifted the cupola, about 22 feet high and 14,000 pounds, ...
