NORTHBRIDGE - Now that the town's fiscal budget is finally balanced for this year, officials have begun the dreaded task of tackling the budget for fiscal 2008 with the town's savings account depleted, costs rising and needs growing.
The town is already looking at a $4 million budget deficit as they begin the process, and the Board of Selectmen recently voted unanimously to take up the state Department of Revenue's offer to help the town with budget workshops and financial forecasting as they tackle next year's budget.
"They know we need some help,'' said Interim Town Manager Joseph J. Montecalvo.
