WORCESTER - The collective pride of a community, a university and a state was centered on Dr. Craig C. Mello last night, as the city celebrated the Nobel Prize winner.
A gala tribute to the University of Massachusetts Medical School researcher was held at the DCU Center, with guests including Gov. Deval L. Patrick and Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Murray, state and local elected leaders and officials from UMass among the crowd, estimated at 600 people.
Dr. Mello, 46, went to Sweden to collect the Nobel Prize in medicine in December. He was given a hero's welcome last night by UMass at Amherst's marching band, whose members braved ...
