GARDNER - Next year's local politicians will officially be in the money - or at least more money than they're in this year.
After nearly two months of discussing and tweaking, the City Council last night approved raises for the mayor, councilors and the council president. All pay boosts will go into effect in January. That follows November's city election, in which the mayor's office and every council seat is up for grabs.
Councilors' raises aren't as substantial as they could have been. Last month, when the raise was proposed, their pay was slated to go from its current $4,500 to $7,150. After some councilors and residents ...
