LEOMINSTER - "Let's get this thing going so I can get my medal."
So said Armas Kaukoranta, of Fitchburg, who was recently awarded the Badge of Merit of the Order of the White Rose of Finland from the government of Finland.
His remarks came during a ceremony Tuesday at the Four Points by Sheraton, Erdman Way. The badge was awarded by Osmo Lipponen, consul general of Finland, assigned to the United Nations.
Mr. Kaukoranta, 78, lives in Fitchburg with his wife, Barbara. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.
