BARRE - Woods Memorial Library is no longer state-certified because the organization did not apply for state aid this year, but the library director insists the change is temporary and will have "minimal impact."
James K. Knowlton, 55, of Sturbridge, said he decided not to apply for the fiscal 2007 state aid shortly after being appointed director in June by the Barre library trustees.
In an interview yesterday, Mr. Knowlton said he contacted the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners last year, who told him last year that the downside would be the loss of $8,000 in aid. The board governs the state's municipal book ...
