Ah, the prequel. We love to get additional information about the origins of our favorite characters, but it does create a dramatic problem. We already know from "Red Dragon," the "next" chapter in the Hannibal Lecter story, that he won't get caught here. When his life is threatened we know with a certainty he doesn't die. So where's the suspense?
The main attraction for viewers is seeing what turned Hannibal Lecter into a cannibalistic serial killer in the first place. That's pretty much revealed in the first half hour, and the rest of the film is the story of how he gets his revenge on the men who ...
