ABSTRACT
Purpose: The study was undertaken to determine compliance with and the effects of a functional six week circuit type exercise programme on fitness, strength and function in an ambulant adolescent with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy.
Relevance: Although cerebral palsy is a non-progressive disorder, changes that occur as a child grows lead to balance deficits, increase in energy expenditure and decrease in cardiorespiratory fitness and strength, all of which may lead to functional impairment. During adolescence these changes intensify with increase in body weight and height, compounded by adolescent inactivity.
