Mar. 14--Ameren Corp. on Tuesday said it's already feeling the pinch from a credit ratings downgrade, while consumer advocates in Illinois said the company faces a crisis of its own doing.
Moody's Investors Service cut the credit ratings of Ameren's three Illinois utilities to junk bond status on Monday, days after an Illinois Senate committee endorsed a bill that would roll back electric rates and impose a freeze. Another bond rating company, Standard & Poor's, said last week that it might impose similar ratings cuts on Ameren if the legislation passes.
