Alabama is becoming the epicenter of a rapidly expanding Southern U.S. automotive supply chain, with three transplant auto makers operating at full tilt.
Last year, more than two dozen new supplier plants and expansions were announced in Alabama, representing more than $325 million in capital investments and 2,250 jobs.
Most of the companies already supply customers in the state. But they hope the new investments will yield more business-not only in Alabama but elsewhere in the South's fast-growing automotive corridor.
The great migration to Alabama has been fueled in part by Kia's recent decision to build an assembly plant in nearby Georgia.
