Mar. 15--On a day given over to celebrating pi, seventh-grader Drew Whitaker kicked things off at an assembly at St. Paul Academy and Summit School with an ode to the storied mathematical constant. "Like a Coke on a blazing summer day," he began, "You are the Zeus of numbers."

Pi, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, got attention befitting a Greek god Wednesday from schools, museums and various geeky sites on the Internet. It's often expressed as 3.14, so pi's "day" is considered to be 3/14, or March 14. At St. Paul Academy, middle-schoolers gathered for the seventh straight year for a variety show of sorts ...
