Design: This was a randomised trial with two treatment arms, (a) intensive antenatal pelvic floor muscle training, and (b) standard antenatal care.
Setting: Three hundred and one women pregnant with their first child who were continent prior to pregnancy, attending a tertiary hospital for a 'routine' ultrasound scan at 18 weeks gestation, gave informed consent and were randomised.
