SICKNESS rates among city council workers are soaring, with staff in the key housing department taking more than 17 days a year off.
Rates of absence over all the city's 55,000 staff are creeping up and rising above the council's target of 9.5 days per year.
But the sick hotspots of city departments are housing and social services departments.
By January this year the 1,500 housing staff were on course to take an average of more than 17 days off sick and their colleagues in the adults and communities department (formerly social services) were taking more than 15 days off.
