When you fly across the myriad of islands and verdant water channels that comprise the Okavango Delta, it seems endless. Despite clear conditions, there is a local joke that pilots have to navigate on instruments due to the lack of landmarks in this 16,000sqkm area that is the "jewel of the Kalahari".
Botswana, roughly the size of France, boasts huge tracts of wilderness. Around 40% of the land area is allocated to wildlife preservation, about 17% as Game Reserves and National Parks and 22% as Wildlife Management Areas.
