A Vietnam veteran who was decorated for heroism and is being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder was sentenced Wednesday to 6 months in jail and three years probation for viewing child pornography last spring at his job as a janitor at Madison's Veterans Hospital.

Had the offense occurred after a change in state law that went into effect last June, Dane County Circuit Court Judge Patrick Fiedler would have been required to sentence Roger L. Buttchen of Madison to a minimum of three years in prison.
