Mar. 15--Dusan Stanojevic arrived in Omaha in 1999 after fleeing from Serbia with his parents' life savings hidden in pretzel bags and a dream of studying in the United States and becoming a doctor. Uncertainty was his constant companion. The money was enough for one semester at Creighton University. Going back would mean forfeiting his parents' sacrifice, giving up his dream and going to jail for avoiding the draft into the Serbian military. Today, Stanojevic's future is laid out in as orderly a fashion as the traffic grid system in the city he's come to love. He's sunk his roots deep both at Creighton and in Omaha.
