How much would it cost you to avoid being engulfed in a tsunami? A mere R2 – if you were one of thousands of gullible people in North West who believed a water snake would cause a huge tidal wave to swamp their arid region.
The warning about the impending catastrophe came from Elizabeth Njuza, a 43-year-old woman from Ramochana, outside Rustenburg, who said in December last year: “A water snake in the form of a merman with a face of a horse and wings visited me. Dripping water and green slime, it asked me if I wanted to go where it sent me. I refused.”
