Mar. 18--She hesitated a little on cotyledon, then rattled it off perfectly.
She sagged as if faint from relief after nailing feint. And then Maggie Wilson, 13, put away buffa to win The Dispatch Regional Spelling Bee yesterday. The seventh-grader from Immaculate Conception School in Clintonville now goes to the verbal Super Bowl: the nationally televised Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington on May 30-31.
Maggie wasn't nervous yesterday for a good reason: "I guess I didn't realize I could win," she said. But she did, in a bee with a twist: Spell-offs to determine first, second and third runnersup came ...
