Mar. 18--"Breaking my neck was the best thing that ever happened to me." By nearly any standard, Mac Lewis' statement is shocking. He is a quadriplegic, the result of a car accident in Ireland in 1985.
"I was a user," he said to describe what his relationships with people were like before his accident. "I did not have a good set of values." He said he worked and played hard and "never really grew up." He didn't value other people.
Mac, 54, spends almost all of his time in bed in his home in southeastern Alamance County. He and his wife, Faye, have lived there for 20 years.
