Mar. 20--Jay Martin took a small vial of blue water and poured it onto a prosthetic leg that was covered with a fine white powder. The water literally leaped off the surface leaving no moisture or discoloration.
It is Martin's task and that of the engineers and researchers at his Oklahoma City-based company called Martin Bionics to incorporate the "hydrophobic" nanoparticles found in that powder into the composite material that comprises prosthetic limbs.
The future for amputees wearing such a device should be cleaner and cooler, he said.
