Two of the best things about this book are the introduction and preface, written by the editor, Ann Patchett, and series editor Katrina Kenison. In the Preface, Kenison explains the process of reading all the short stories she can in the year and narrowing down the choices she sends to the editor. Then Patchett describes the joys and problems of narrowing down the over 100 stories to fit in this collection.
