The proposed marriage of defense industry heavyweights Lockheed Corp. and Martin Marietta Corp. could have a big impact on the region's satellite-making business.
The proposed deal, which has raised antitrust issues and requires federal government approval, would create a huge company with $23 billion in annual sales and a good chunk of that will be from building commercial and military satellites.
Though exact figures are unavailable, the combined companies' annual revenue from commercial and military satellite making could be as much as $4.5 billion to $5 billion.
