When architectural superstar, Rem Koolhaas, finally lifted the cloth on his eccentric design model for 111 First Street in Jersey City last week, council members knew they had gotten the sweet end of a compromise made with powerhouse developer, Lloyd Goldman, that followed a three year legal scuffle over the site.

The city hopes that the building--a 52-story mixed-use high-rise of three interdependent rectangular forms crisscrossed on top of each other with a glass ceiling and 10 jutting corners--will both stand out in the skyline and help revive the Powerhouse Arts District that has lain dormant for the past 20 years.
