Mar. 23--If you need proof that water is becoming as precious as oil, simply scan the skies above Ashland and Gretna this weekend.
Using a helicopter-mounted sensor, scientists are taking an "MRI" of selected areas of eastern Nebraska to divine where the best water is.
The technology being used has its origins in the search for oil and minerals.
"In Nebraska, the money is all in the water," said Bob Swanson, director of the U.S. Geological Survey's Water Science Center in Lincoln. "If this works, we know we've got a way we can rapidly and effectively map big sections of Nebraska."
