Holster question.(SPEAK OUT: YOUR FORUM TO PONTIFICATE, PONDER AND PROBE)(Letter to the editor)

I recently inherited a holster that's kind of neat. It's a military flap holster, made of what seems to be glossy brown leather with "U.S." stamped on the front. It has three rows of letters and numbers stacked one on top of the other: "G&K" "1917" "A.G." It appears to be made for a large revolver, because it tapers sharply from the "U.S." stamp, down. If you of another staff member can help me identify my holster and its history, as well as give any tips to help preserve it, I would be very appreciative
