In December 2006, the FDA approved Celebrex (celecoxib) for a new use--relief of the signs and symptoms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (IRA) in patients ages 2 years and older. Celebrex, a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), was originally approved in 1998 for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis in adults.
