Mar. 23--Illinois public health officials today widened to the entire state a warning for illegally made Mexican-style cheese that tested positive for salmonella.
The health alert initially was issued Thursday by Kane County officials following the discovery of cheese that tested positive for salmonella Newport.
A follow-up warning, issued by Eric Whitaker, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, warned consumers about the dangers of eating illegally manufactured cheeses, or cheeses apparently produced in unlicensed, unregulated facilities.
