As with any society, our personal or professional lives are regulated in some way or another by guidelines, laws, or rules that bring some kind of negative consequence if we ignore them. Many regulations are good (driving the posted speed limit), whereas others (save foil gum wrapper to discard gum after use) are just plain silly. Most often, however, playing by the rules is the price we pay for keeping some order and sanity to our lives, even when keeping track of the rules and making sure we conform to them can seem like a job in itself.
