Mar. 24--KOLKATA, India -- Christie's has achieved total sales of $8.6 million in its New York auction of modern and contemporary Indian art. A V.S. Gaitonde Untitled work has swung the highest price at $768,000 which is above the estimate of $500,000-700,000. The painting was bought by a US private collector. 92 lots of the 117 on offer were sold out working out to a sale performance of 79 percent.
The average value of the sale is placed in the region of $93,403. On the sales ladder, a S.H. Raza Untitled followed Gaitonde with a sale figure of $480,000. This time it was picked up by an Indian private collector. At the same time, Raja Ravi Verma's Vasantasena by a ...
