THE UK's leading new homes website, SmartNewHomes.com has launched a campaign to get stamp duty for first-time buyers abolished.
Rising house prices are making it increasingly difficult for first-time buyers to step onto the housing ladder, with a growing number of those who are successful falling into the stamp duty "tax trap", payable on properties sold above pounds 125,000.
With the average house price paid by a first-time buyer in 2006 exceeding pounds 150,000, the number of buyers exempt from this housing tax is falling.
