William Bradley, the founder of the Denver venture capital firm W.J. Bradley Co., says he does not want to be perceived as a white knight who rescues mortgage originators that otherwise would fail.
To a certain degree, the companies that are troubled, that's what they think they're searching for, Mr. Bradley said. A very small percentage are going to survive, because most of them need a white knight, and the white knight doesn't exist.
Despite his aversion to rescue missions, W.J. Bradley has emerged as an active acquirer. It is one of several firms that are buying mortgage operations and assets at deep discounts.
