Mar. 27--TOKYO -- Isetan Co. and Tokyu Department Store Co. said Tuesday they have agreed to form an alliance effective Sunday in order to integrate the information systems of Japan's fifth- and ninth-biggest department store operators, in a move accelerating grouping within the industry hit by falling birth rates.
Under the agreement, which also involved Tokyu Corp., a railway operator and Tokyu Department Store's parent, the two Tokyo-based retailers are to integrate systems for managing sales and customer data to cut costs and boost profitability, they said.
