Jerry Powers hears the rumors. His Ocean Drive Media Group is losing money. Advertising at titles such as Ocean Drive magazine is down because of the turn in the real estate market. His Spanish-language magazine partnership with Emilio and Gloria Estefan is dragging the whole enterprise down. He is expanding too much, too fast.

"I always hear about once a month that we are going out of business, when we've just had the biggest quarter of our lives," says the founder and CEO of the Miami Beach-based lifestyle magazine publisher. "We're making money. We're making crazy money. We've doubled our revenues between '04 and '05."
