Mar. 28--A lost contract with Ford Motor Co. will cost a Fort Wayne piston manufacturer about 150 jobs.
Officials at Karl Schmidt Unisia Inc., 2425 Coliseum Blvd., said that after negotiations last week, Ford did not renew a contract for the 4.6-liter piston manufactured at the Fort Wayne plant.
"It wasn't a surprise; we all knew this contract was coming up for renewal; we knew two and half years ago this day would come," said Joe Cobb, human resources manager. "You negotiate those contracts constantly, and I think it came down to a price issue. We don't have quality or delivery issues so it must have been a price issue." ...
