A cold, blustery and rainswept Monday blew away some golfers but not Oregon's Matt Ma, who used the weather - and the home course - to his advantage.
A senior with a history of mixed results, Ma had a 3-under-par 141 total to take the individual lead after the first 36 holes of the 54-hole, two-day Duck Invitational men's tournament at Eugene Country Club.
"We're all used to this weather and I just got hot in that first round," he said, apparently ignoring the mid-40 degree temperatures. "I putted well. I kept building my confidence. The second round was tougher, but I just kept grinding it out."
