Mar. 31--The best way to keep residents informed about how the Columbia Police Department investigates complaints against its officers is up for debate after a consulting group recommended changes to the process.
A 128-page report from four consultants hired to review the department's internal affairs process was released yesterday. Most Columbia residents who participated in the study said the process seems secretive and unfairly biased against residents, especially minorities, the report said.
