Article: Revisioning the Bauhaus.

The latest Bauhaus exhibition to be mounted in these parts opened at the American Craft Museum in Manhattan early this summer (it will close on October 9th). It is not the largest show on the Bauhaus ever mounted (the one at MoMA, across the street from the American Craft Museum, and designed by Herbert Bayer in 1938, was probably about as large as anything ever done on the subject). But this latest show raises one or two questions that have sometimes been swept under the rug of history, as it were--specifically, one that is implied in its title ("Bauhaus Workshops: fiber, ceramics, metals, wood, glass") and its location at a museum of crafts (rather than of technology).
