MORE than 500 Scottish soldiers are on the run from the Army as evidence mounts of falling morale over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The figure - equivalent to an entire infantry regiment - covers those absent without leave (AWOL) from the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the Scots Guards and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
It also includes Scots logistics personnel and medics attached to other regiments.
Ministry of Defence chiefs have blamed family problems for most of the AWOL soldiers, some who have been on the run since the Iraq invasion in 2003.
