BOTH are renowned for being hard working and commanding great power, despite their deceptively diminutive frame.
Now, as well as these common attributes, the Highland pony is set to share the Queen's summer home with the establishment of a breeding stud farm at Balmoral Castle.
The monarch, who is regularly pictured out for a morning ride on her prize- winning mount Balmoral Curlew, first encountered Highland ponies in her childhood and rode one as a teenager when she recorded her only personal victory in the show ring.
Now eight brood mares will be moved from their present home at Hampton Court to her Scottish residence in June ...
